More Information

The Herbal Path blog was created in March 2009.  We intend to use this space to keep you updated on events, provide information about products, and pass on wit and wisdom from the Herbal Path staff!

Sometimes we need more room to share information — it just doesn’t fit into a regular entry, or it’s something we want to be able to direct people to easily.  That’s what this page is for.  You can see the links listed below, or if you hover over the “More Information” link in the header bar.

    Hi
I a looking for something for ear infections on my 16 year old cat, who is healthy but sensitive.

    what do you suggest?

    thank you

    Hi Faye!
Cats (as I’m sure you know) are very tricky to treat, because herbs tend to act very differently on cats than people (or dogs). Many dog ear cleanse products have essential oils in them, which should never be used on cats.

Homeopathic remedies are often a good choice for cats. I checked in a book we have here at the Herbal Path, called Homeopathic First Aid For Animals, and it recommends several homeopathic remedies. If there is discharge, Rhus tox, Mercurius, or Hepar Sulph may be effective treatments for ear infections. Aconite is recommended for when the ear is painful and the animal seems off-balance. Bellis is also a recommended remedy if the animal is restless and very sensitive to noise.

Beyond homeopathics, I would recommend consulting Joyce Belcher. She is a certified herbalist and animal herbalist who makes several products we sell here at the Herbal Path. Her phone number is 800-510-9597, and her email address is jbelcher@maine.rr.com. We often refer people to her with pet questions.

    Thank you!
    Marci

    Hello,
I would like to try some new recipes that require agave nectar and sucanat. Do you carry these items or do you know where I could purchase them. Thank you very much.

    Hi Tracy,
We carry a variety of sweeteners at the Herbal Path, including agave nectar. We could special order the sucanat for you at no extra charge, but we do not generally have it on the shelves. We do stock agave nectar, as well as erythritol, stevia, stevita, and xylitol. As a reminder, the Dover and Portsmouth stores do not always have the same products in stock — it’s always a good idea to call before you stop by!

I am new to New Hampshire and am looking for a product that I used back home–it is for soft tissue repair. It is called Ligamend. Do you carry it?

    Hi Joan,
We do not have a product called “Ligamend” on our shelves, so I looked it up. Several companies offer a product by that name, including Organika and Nu-Life. Neither of them are carried by our suppliers, unfortunately, but both products are available for purchase online. After looking at the ingredients, we do carry several similar products that you might find helpful. Give us a call or drop by the store anytime if you would like to go over them.
