    Hi Verna,

Currently in our Portsmouth location we carry the homeopathic hCG product by Buckeye Nutritionals. Lately, it had become quite popular. Several customers are on their second bottle and finding the results they were looking for when other diet programs have been unsuccessful. One customer is in an upcoming wedding and was especially excited about her recent 16 pound weight loss.

According to the literature provided from Buckeye Nutritionals, Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) is never found in the human body except during pregancy. The hCG hormone kicks up the metabolism, by signaling the body to burn more fat. hCG opens only the excess fat cells allowing excess fat cells to be burned. No other time in the human body does this happen, and so other diets often remove fat cells the body needs, causing us to lose in places we don’t want first, and finally where you need it. hCG burns the excess fat cells taking the needed fat, and literally sculpting the body, losing inches as well as pounds. With every bottle purchased customers receive a “program” booklet that provides some basic guidelines and helps in sticking to your weight loss goals.

I hope this information helpful. I have heard such good things from our customers that I just started with my first bottle! Barbara

Is there anything you can take to lighten or shorten menstrual periods? Yarrow tea?? and do you carry it??

    Hi Trish,
There is a gynecologist who works next door to us at the Dover store who often recommends a product called “Slow Flow.” According to the product, “Slow Flow features key ingredients that assist with fast relief for heavy or prolonged menstrual flow.” Please feel free to call the store at any time to have us set one aside for you! Thank you!

i hope you can help by recommending supplements i should take for my condition.

i am in my mid forties, not reached menopause, but have been losing hair in patches for several months now. i have a back problem and am taking medication for it and for my depression.

i am often tired, do not have a thyroid problem, and have low energy. i take multivitamins and evening primose everyday as supplement.

can u recommend me something for my hair loss problem, which i am not sure whether its due to hormonal changes?

    Hi Cindy,
Hair loss is hardly ever just about hair — it’s usually an indicator of something else that’s going on in the body. I highly recommend you check with one of our pharmacists or your primary care physician to find out if your prescription medications may be causing some of the hair loss and/or tiredness you are experiencing. You could definitely look into some other supplements as well. Silica is one thing that’s commonly recommended for hair loss and thinning hair. Rosemary oil (applied topically) is another traditional hair supplement. You can call the Herbal Path (603-740-8400) for a schedule of when the pharmacists are available or to set up a consult. I hope you are able to find some relief!

Do you cary “dari free powder” from Vance ??

    Hi Mary,
Both Herbal Path locations have more of a focus on health supplements than on food products, although we do carry hemp milk and coconut milk. The dari-free powder is a milk substitute — unfortunately, none of our suppliers currently carry it. I recommend trying Dover Natural Foods Marketplace or Portsmouth Health Food to see if they have the product. It is also available online. Hope this helps!

I recently moved from Baltimore to New Hampshire, and I always went to an herbal, natural and organic foods store where they sold bulk herbs.I wanted to know if you sell herbs in bulk?Especially Kava kava.

    Hi Janai,
Welcome to New Hampshire! The Herbal Path in Dover does sell bulk herbs. The Portsmouth Herbal Path location does not carry bulk herbs, but anything we carry in Dover could easily be sent to Portsmouth for pickup if that location was more convenient for you. Kava Kava is not one of the herbs we normally stock in bulk, but we do carry it in capsules as well as in a liquid extract form. Please feel free to call the store at 603-740-8400 to check availability of anything else you might be looking for. Hopefully we will see you soon!

I am looking for Vitamin D3 in 2000 IU or higher. I’ve had a hard time in the past with pills upsetting my stomach and one of your employees informed me it was because I am not getting it in it’s natural form (at least I think that how she put it). What brand would you recommend?

    Hi Stephanie,
You could certainly try taking a whole food D3 like the 2000 IU product by MegaFood. We have gotten excellent feedback about their Vitamin D3 products, both for how well they are tolerated and for their effectiveness in raising serum levels of D. Garden of Life also makes a whole food vitamin D3 product, in a veggie cap instead of a tablet like MegaFood. Give us a call any time at 603-740-8400 for more information or pricing. Hope this helps!

    Hi Frank,
New Chapter has discontinued the Liver Force product. All of their mushroom product formulas were designed by Paul Stamets, who has left New Chapter and started his own company, Fungi Perfecti. Fungi Perfecti does offer a Turkey Tail supplement that is carried at the Herbal Path. We also have two blends of mushrooms that contain the Turkey Tail mushroom: New Chapter’s new Lifeshield Immunity blend and Mushroom Harvest’s 14 Mushroom Blend. Do you guys carry goat’s milk?

    Hi Chloe,
The Portsmouth Herbal Path carries raw milk (as well as yogurt and quark), but it is cow milk and not goat milk. You might try Dover Natural Marketplace — they have much more of a food focus than the Herbal Path (phone number for Dover Natural is 603-749-9999). You might also check the Hannaford’s across from the Dover Herbal Path. They have a fairly large “natural” section, and I know they carry kefir. Not sure about goat milk, but it might be worth a shot.

I have experience symptoms that lead me to believe I have an underactive thyroid. I went to my doctor and had my thyroid checked. Doctor has indicated there is not a problem with my thyroid. I have experienced hair loss, weight gain (35 lbs) with no change in diet, extreme fatigue over the past several months and muscle aches. Are there any herbal supplements that you might recommend? I don’t feel well anymore. I also have lots of lipomas throughout my body. I experience lots of sinus infections. Your help is appreciated. I want to feel well again.

    Hi Dawn,
I certainly hope you can get back to feeling better soon! Based on the information you provided, it does look like you have some symptoms that are commonly associated with hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid). Having your doctor test your levels is a good course of action — there are multiple tests that can be done, and there is some controversy about which tests best measure thyroid activity and what the optimal results for those tests would be. Doctors can currently test for TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone), T3, and T4 levels. If your doctor only tested one of those, you might consider asking to have additional testing done.

If you are considering herbal supplements, I highly recommend you set up a consultation with one of our pharmacists. Any time you start something new, it’s important to make sure it’s not going to interact with anything you might already be taking, and also make sure you understand how it is supposed to work. As always, a key is going to be starting with a good foundation — a good quality multivitamin, probiotic, and omega 3 supplement are some of the building blocks to begin with.

Hi – I had a giardia problem last year, treated it conventionally, and felt fine for a while, but am experiencing the same symptoms again. I don’t think it’s a new infection, but rather that not all the cysts were killed in the last round of treatment. What do you carry that might be effective in completely killing the giardia, without killing me into the bargain (or causing me greater intestinal distress while using the treatment)? Thanks

    Hi,
Any time you have a serious infection such as giardia, it can be a good idea to speak to one of our pharmacists. After checking with Greg (a pharmacist as well as an herbalist), it sounds like you do have some options, although (of course) nothing is a guaranteed success. A probiotic is a great idea for most people, but especially for someone in your situation. Also, there are several parasite cleanse products that could be effective, such as Herbs Etc.’s ParaFree, Gaia’s Para-Shield, and NOW’s Black Walnut – Wormwood Complex. All of these products are carried regularly in the Dover Herbal Path and could easily be transferred to the Portsmouth store if they didn’t have them on the shelf. As I said, speaking with a pharmacist could help you decide the best course of action. Hope this helps!

    Hi Denise,
Yes, we do carry Standard Process products (in both the Dover and Portsmouth stores). Hi,Ihave a son with austism ,he is 7 y/o At this point the major problem is the behavior. Please let me know if you carry something to help him. Thanks

    Hi!
Many people find good success with natural treatments for autism, especially as a supplement to other avenues of therapy and healing. My number one suggestion would be to set up a consult with Greg McCrone, who is a certified pharmacist as well as an herbalist who works at the Herbal Path. He could give you some specific advice on what might be best for your son’s situation. As some general advice, some of the things most often suggested for autism are identifying possible food allergies, supplementing with fish oil and a good multivitamin/mineral, and using herbal supplements like lemon balm or chamomile.

What would you suggest using for an over active bladder (my symptoms are just constant urination (not involuntary)? I have tried every prescription drug out there and was tested negative for diabetes.
Through online research I came across n-tonic do you know anything about it?

    Hi Nicole!
There are definitely some natural avenues you might try for overactive bladder. As always, if you are currently taking any prescription drugs, we strongly recommend you speak with one of our pharmacists before adding anything else to your regimen. Overactive bladder can have a variety of causes, from inflammation (including inflammation caused by a food allergy or sensitivity) to UTIs or bacteria/yeast. To begin with, some suggestions might include a good probiotic supplement (good bacteria). Cranberry, corn silk, uva ursi, spilanthes, and d-mannose could all potentially be helpful, depending on the root cause of the issue. Several companies, including Herbal Energetics and Gaia Herbs, make urinary tract support products which combine multiple ingredients.

I did look into the “n-tonic” online — I found a product called N-Con Tonic. The N-Con Tonic website says: “N-Con Tonic is a safe, non-addictive, FDA registered natural remedy containing 100% homeopathic ingredients to temporarily relieve urine leakage and strengthen bladder and urinary tract muscles. ” At the Herbal Path, we support homeopathic products and frequently recommend them. In this case, however, it sounds like the product is primarily aimed at toning muscles to prevent leakage, as opposed to addressing the issue of frequent urination.

Hope this helps! Please feel free to give us a call (603-740-8400) or stop by anytime!

I am looking for liquid children vitamins without additives/preservatives and nordic fish oil (children). Do you have those?

    thanks

    Hi Maria!
We currently have two liquid children’s multivitamins on our shelves. One is the Liquid Health Children’s Multivitamin. It does include potassium sorbate and potassium benzoate to preserve freshness. The other product is the Floradix Kinder Love Children’s Multivitamin, which contains no preservatives. I’m not sure what additives specifically you are looking to avoid, but you are welcome to give us a call or stop in anytime — we can look at the ingredients, or if there’s a specific product you’re looking for, we’d be happy to check if we can get it for you.

In regards to the fish oil, we do carry the Nordic Naturals brand for children. They make a children’s DHA in a liquid and in a chewable softgel, as well as an omega 3 gummy product. We also carry a variety of other fish oil products specifically for children.

    Thanks
    Angelic

    Hi Angelic,
The “Bright Spark” product was new to me, so I looked it up. It is a homeopathic blend specifically recommended for ADHD. The ingredients are:

Hyoscyamus (30C) for the control of behavioral problems and over-excitability.
Tuberculinum (30c) traditionally used for hay fever and can also be used to soothe irritability.
Arsen Iod (30C) to control restlessness and irritability, as well as temper outbursts and impatience.
Verta Alb (30C) for the control of emotional imbalance.

Homeopathic remedies tend to be very safe and often very effective, especially for children, but I have not heard anything specific about the Bright Spark product. It looks like it is available online from the producer (Native Remedies) as well as from Amazon.com.

Please feel free to get in touch if you have any more questions or would like additional suggestions for ADHD. Thank you!

Do you carry Iodine Plus 2? What dosage for improving your metabolism so that you can lose weight?

Iodine Plus 2 is a brand name of a product that includes Iodine, Vitamin B2 and B3, and Selenium. We do not stock this product on our shelves, though we do have several products containing food sources of iodine. These are well-absorbed and utilized by the body, and we frequently recommend them to people who are trying to support their thyroid function.

Hypothyroidism (low thyroid function) can make it more difficult to lose weight. It could also be a case of general adrenal fatigue, which can be caused by stress. Adaptogenic herbs such as ashwaganda, eleuthero, and rhodiola can be helpful in this case.

Any time you are planning to take a significant iodine supplement, you should check with your doctor first, and ask to have your thyroid hormone levels checked.

do you recommend/have anything for weight loss. I exercise regularly but can’t drop this last 10.
    thanks

There are several things that could be helpful. One is to look at your diet — making sure you’re eating plenty of healthy fruits and vegetables, and including good fats. You are already doing the hardest part — exercising!

If you’re eating good foods and exercising regularly, and still having trouble losing weight, supplements can help. Several products, like New Chapter’s Diet & Energy, Gaia’s Diet Slim, and Garden of Life’s Fucothin, are designed to help speed up your metabolism and “pump up” your weight loss efforts (without having any stimulant side effects). We’d be happy to go over the supplements we have available with you and answer any questions you have about them, either over the phone or in person.

    Hi Jonathan –

We carry many probiotic (beneficial bacteria) products, including Acidophilus. Probiotics are something we recommend for nearly everyone.

We have one D-Limonene product currently on our shelves. It is called “Heartburn Free” by the Enzymatic Therapy company. That product contains 1 gram of orange peel extract per capsule (standardized to contain 98.5% d-limonene). Sorry for the late response — yes, we do carry vitamin D in the 2000 IU potency. Both Carlson and Natural Factors offer vitamin D in 2000 IU (although I believe only the Carlson is in the gel cap form).
