Do you sell anything to help with Rosacea?
Hi Becky,
Yes, the Herbal Path has a variety of products that may help with rosacea. Rosacea is not a very well understood condition — it can have many different triggers for different people. However, there are certainly products that can be beneficial. Topically, Derma-e makes a line of products with pycnogenol that are often recommended for rosacea. Grateful Body also has a product, called ‘Ciao Rosacea’ that we have heard excellent feedback about.
Internally, products that help manage inflammation may help. That would include things like New Chapter’s Zyflamend and Gaia’s Infla-Profen. From reading the wikipedia page about rosacea, it looks like there is currently some research being done on using MSM and silymarin (from milk thistle) as a treatment as well.

Do you carry Herbal Lite shake mix for weight loss? Thank you
Hi Candi,
I couldn’t find the brand of shakes you mentioned online, although I did fine a line called “Herbal Life,” which may be what you’re thinking of? Although we do not carry that specific brand, we do have many protein shakes and meal replacement products. We have products with a variety of protein sources (whey, hemp, rice, etc) and many different supplemental ingredients. I encourage you to stop by and pick up some single serve packets — many people find that certain products agree with them more than others in terms of digestion and taste!

Anything for fertility! Anything to help ovulation!! ??
Tea’s, and or Pill’s anything!
Hi Holly,
There are (as you might guess) many products that people have recommended over the years to help with fertility. I did find a nice article by Susun Weed (http://www.herbalremediesinfo.com/fertility_article.html), who is a well known herbalist, that has some good information. Also, I highly recommend calling the Herbal Path and speaking to Greg, who is an herbalist and pharmacist, for specific information. Thank you!

I was wondering, do your stores carry myrrh tincture? If not, do you know where I could find some quickly?
Hi Rena,
I do not think either Herbal Path carries a straight myrrh tincture or myrrh essential oil, although I know it’s in several of our products, particularly mouthwashes. We could definitely order myrrh tincture for you; we order at the start of each week and most orders are in by the end of the week. If you cannot find it in any of the stores in your local area, probably the fastest way to get it would be to choose a reputable online seller and have them overnight it to you. Hope this helps!

I’m suffering from painful knees – osteoporosis. Any advice?
Hi,
Thanks for your question — there are a variety of approaches to joint pain that you may find beneficial. As always, you should check with your doctor before starting a new supplement, or check with one of our staff pharmacists to make sure you will not have any interactions between supplements and prescription medications.
One thing you might try is an essential fatty acid supplement, such as a fish oil. Fish oil, with it’s beneficial omega 3 fats, can have a lubricating effect on joints, as well as an anti-inflammatory effect.
A very popular product for joint pain is Zyflamend, which is essentially an herbal anti-inflammatory and antioxidant product. There are many options for anti-inflammatory products which can help relieve pain and swelling. These include turmeric, bromelain, devil’s claw, white willow, prickly ash, and more.
Another option that some people find helpful is the joint supplements such as glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM, and collagen. These products are available in a wide variety of combinations and potencies.
My best advice to you would be to not settle. There are so many products available that can offer support and relief; I think it is definitely worth it to keep experimenting until you find what really works for you.

Hello,do you carry Adva Calicum Intensive products? thankyoy
Hi Carol,
We do not generally stock the AdvaCal products on our shelves. This is because we have many calcium and bone supplements that we feel are equivalent or more in demand. We did carry several AdvaCal products in the past, but decided to discontinue them after they expired. Our suppliers do carry several of the products, which could be special ordered at no extra charge. This includes the regular AdvaCal, the Ultra, and the Advanced. I could not find the Intensive product available from any of our suppliers, although it is available from many online sources. If you are interested in finding out more about what bone supplements we carry or how best to choose a bone supplement, please feel free to call the Herbal Path any time at 603-740-8400. I hope this helps!

Looking for “Brain Calm” by THN ( Total Health Ntrients) do you have this , how much and what do you know about this product for anxiety?
Hi Karin,
I can’t find the Brain Calm product available anywhere except online. It looks like the ingredients are: GABA, inositol, glycine, and passionflower. We do have many excellent stress and anxiety products. One product is called GABA Relaxer by Country Life — it includes GABA, inositol, and glycine, as well as taurine, B6, and niacin. It does not include the passionflower, but we do sell that separately. Feel free to stop by or give us a call if you want more information about products or pricing. Thanks!

Do you carry sugar pills or some kind of placebo pill?
Hi Lynne,
I apologize for the long wait in my reply. I was waiting to hear back from some of our suppliers. Unfortunately, we do not carry any kind of placebo pills or the like. Thank you for checking with us!

I was wondering if you sell Weleda Nursing Tea and/or Yogi Nursing Support Tea?
Hi Laurie,
We generally only have the Traditional Medicinal’s Mother’s Milk Tea on the shelf, but I did check with our suppliers and we can order either of the other two brands. Please give us a call (603-740-8400) if you would like to order any. I would place the order on a Monday and the products would be in by the end of the week; special orders are eligible for the buy 3 / save 10% discount (in case you are interested in multiple boxes). Thank you!

Do you carry Stomacin-U?
Hi Bea,
I did some checking on the product Stomacin-U, which is essentially a cabbage extract used to treat gastrointestinal concerns such as ulcers. We do not carry it in the store, although it looks like it may be available from one of our suppliers, so we could special order it for you (I would have to call the supplier to make sure).
The product is supposed to help heal the lining of the digestive tract. I would highly recommend Greg’s Gut Wrench tea, which is a herbal tea blend recommended for the same thing. Many herbs and ingredients can be used to help with the digestive tract lining (and overall digestive health) including marshmallow, slippery elm, and l-glutamine. Hope this helps, and feel free to call the store if you have any questions or want to order the Stomacin!

Hello, I am looking for Elderberry plants I could buy and replant here at my home, do you know of a place that carries them localy? And will you be having another herbal walk with Greg soon?
Hi Deanna,
I have passed your question along to Greg to see if he has any thoughts on the elderberry plants. Hopefully he will be able to do some more bird and herb walks soon!

I have fibro, and right now i am in a flare. I also have a 6 month that i breast feed. What do you recommend that is safe for my son to breast feed and will really work. Thank-you for your time
Hi Renee,
Any time you are working with a complex condition like fibromyalgia, there are many factors to take into consideration. I spoke with Greg, who is a certified herbalist and pharmacist, about your question. I would definitely recommend that you come into the store and/or schedule a consultation with him to discuss possible nutritional and lifestyle options to help you. However, he was able to suggest a few things that might help. One is a category of supplements known as adaptogens (because they help the body “adapt” to stressors). Ashwagandha and holy basil are two adaptogens that are considered safe to take while breastfeeding. Other supplements you might consider include fish oil (or plant oils), minerals (especially magnesium), and probiotics. Thanks for your question!

do you carry “food grade” 35% hydrogen peroxide? I read an article that is was helpful for a multitude of problems, but can’t seem to find it anywhere.
Hi Kathy,
We do carry food grade hydrogen peroxide, but it is in a 12% strength. I believe you can purchase the 35% solution over the internet; we do not carry it because there is a much higher potential for risk if the higher potency is taken internally. I hope this information is helpful!

I am looking for some natural bug repellents – especially with black fly season in full swing in NH and I am a golfer. I hate to use products with DEET. I have had some success with products with eucalyptus, but have not been able to find any locally anymore. I have seen some “recipes” online, but would prefer to buy something pre-mixed.
Hi Jeannette,
We have several great products that are all-natural and ready to use. One of our most popular is called “Natur-Repel” and is made by a Maine herbalist. It doesn’t have the overwhelmingly citronella-y scent that is often associated with “natural” insect repellents, and it is extremely effective against black flies, mosquitoes, and also ticks.

I was wondering if you still carried the meds for leg cramps. They had a “natural” quinine in them. Can I get them shipped to me?
Hi Joanne,
Yes, we do carry the product — it’s called “Leg Cramps with Quinine.” Very popular, as we have heard from many customers that it is increasingly difficult to find quinine. We do ship products, although we would have to charge a shipping fee ($5.95). (As a reminder, any time you buy three of the same product, you do save 10%. This can help to make up for the shipping cost if it’s a product you use frequently.)

Hello, I was wondering if you carry or even recommend any sort of supplement for hormonal imbalances? Thank you.
Hi Cathy,
Supplements for hormonal balance (particularly for women) are one of our most common requests! There are many different herbal, homeopathic, and even food products that may be beneficial in balancing hormones. Some of the most common supplements recommended for women are vitex, maca, and evening primrose oil. I highly recommend speaking with one of our pharmacists or herbalists regarding your particular needs, especially if you are taking any prescription medications. Thank you!

I was wondering if you carried anything that really works for hemroids?
Hi Mary,
We do carry several topical products specifically formulated for hemorrhoids — at the Dover store you can find them stocked in the pregnancy section. Witch hazel is also commonly recommended as a topical treatment, and we carry that as well. As you might imagine, it’s not a topic that most people get really excited about coming back in and talking with us about, but I’ve never heard any negative feedback about the products, and they are all made by companies I trust. Hope this helps — if you’d like more information or pricing, feel free to call the store any time at 603-740-8400. Thank you!

Hi! I was wondering if you knew of any psychiatrist who practices with Natural products, like 5 HTP? Even if he or she is at least supplement-friendly, I’d appreciate it. A former one didn’t approve of the 5HTP, though nothing he prescribed worked as well in the winter for my SAD. Thanks!
Hi Johnny,
I would recommend checking the New England Seacoast Holistic Health Association (NESHHA) website. They have a contact information for many different practitioners in a wide variety of fields. Even if you can’t find exactly what you’re looking for, you might be able to find a good jumping off point to start looking.

Hi, I wanted to know if you carry any these brands of digestive enzymes. I would like to run over this afternoon and pick them up if you do. The one that was recommended to me by a friend is Purecaps the other she mentioned but didn’t specifically recommend is Thropps Nutrition.
Hi Nancy,
We carry many different brands of digestive enzymes, including MegaFood, NOW, Source Naturals, Country Life, Nature’s Plus, Enzymedica, and more. I have not heard of the specific brands you mentioned, but if you are interested, I’d be happy to see if we could order either of them for you. I apologize for not getting back to you sooner — the most timely way to reach us continues to be by phone!
Thank you,

Hi I was wondering if you carried 7 day lung cleanse and turmeric tea. Thank you
Hi Shirley,
Thanks for your questions. The lung cleanse looks like it’s a specific product name available direct to consumers online or via phone. It doesn’t contain many herbs that I recognize as being commonly suggested for respiratory and lung health, but I also couldn’t find any negative reviews doing a quick search. The Herbal Path does carry a Smoker’s Cleanse which can be used for lung cleansing even in non-smokers, as well as many respiratory health products that could be beneficial. Mushrooms like cordyceps and turkey tail are a few supplements you might try.
Turmeric tea is generally made using turmeric powder, which we do carry at the Herbal Path. There’s a nice article at e-how.com detailing an easy recipe.

Good Morning. I was wondering if you have emu oil in stock? Thanks so much!
Hi Karen,
We do not currently keep pure emu oil in stock, although it is an ingredient in some of our products, including the Ahh Relief pain relieving cream by Carolyn Kelley. We can order emu oil as a special order at no extra charge if you are interested. If there is a specific product you are looking for, we are happy to check if any of our suppliers carry it!

Do you carry the multivitamin Optivite PMT?
Hi Elise,
We do not carry that particular multivitamin. I did a check to see if any of our suppliers sell it, but it looks like it is either mainly or exclusively sold online (including online retaliers like Amazon.com). We would be happy to help you compare the Optivite multi to ones we do carry if you are interested. Thank you!
Marci
Do you carry the multivitamin Optivite PMT?
do you carry Gout remedies, such as Gout CLR?
Hi DeeDee,
We carry multiple products for gout, although I have not heard of the one you mentioned. A quick internet search shows that the ingredients in Gout CLR include: yucca stalk, alfalfa, dandelion, devil’s claw, celery seeds, quercetin, folic acid, garlic, artichoke powder, turmeric, milk thistle, mulberry, burdock, rutin, boswellia, and bromelain. This list includes some great ingredients; you can definitely find many of these at the herbal path. I am surprised to see that Cherry Fruit Extract is not on the list. This is our most popular gout treatment product and we hear excellent feedback about it. Cherry Fruit Extract is available in capsules; the black cherry juice liquid concentrate is also very popular.
Hope this helps!
Marci

I am in need of the recipe for the Flaxseed oil mixed with whole milk, yogurt. It is a natural herbal remedy for cancer, etc.
Hi Sandy,
We do carry flaxseed oil in both the regular and high lignan varieties. We carry the Barlean’s and Flora brands. The Portsmouth Herbal Path sells yogurt as well as raw milk from Brookford Farms. We are always happy to transfer items to whichever store is more convenient for you!
Marci
Do you carry Deglycyrrhizinated Licorice (DGL) and if so, what forms do you have it in. I’m a black licorice lover and am looking DGL without sugary additives that will still provide licorice health benefits.
Hi Dave,
Yes, the Herbal Path carries DGL in the form of chewable wafers/tablets. The NOW brand DGL has 1.5 grams of sugar per tablet. It is sweetened with Stevia, Fructose, and Xylitol. Enzymatic Therapy also makes a chewable DGL in both “original” and “fructose free/sugarless” varieties. The original has less than 1 gram of sugar per tablet and is sweetened with fructose. The sugar free does not have any added sweeteners. Feel free to call the store any time 603-740-8400 if you would like additional information.
Thanks!

looking to get information on the Acai Optimum and Paraslim colon cleanse products. Read some information regarding these as being helpful for weightloss. Might you carry these products or something simular? Thank you.
Hi Brenda,
I did some checking into both of the products you mentioned to find out what they were claiming and what ingredients they were using. The acai cleanse ingredients I could find were: apple cider vinegar, green tea extract, grapefruit, garcinia cambogia, kelp, and acai. This blend of ingredients isn’t bad — digestive aids, antioxidants, thyroid support, and metabolism boosters.
The other product lists as ingredients: “Resveratrol, Cayenne Fruit Powder, EGCG from Green Tea, Apple Cider Vinegar, Vitamin B-6 and Ginger Root Powder.” Again, a similar blend of ingredients, although more focused on the antioxidant and digestion elements.
The basic rule of thumb I follow is this: if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. These products have some good ingredients. At the Herbal Path, we carry multiple products with similar good ingredients. There are definitely supplements that can be supportive of a weight loss plan, but nothing is a miracle drug. If there was a product that was guaranteed to make people lose weight without them changing their lifestyle (and didn’t have dangerous side effects), believe me, it would be on the evening news!
We have many knowledgeable staff members who can help you decipher labels and claims as well as suggest products that may fit your needs. Please feel free to call the store any time at 603-740-8400.
Thank you!

Hello. I’d like to make a suggestion for the unused space you spoke of.
I think a Cafe’ would be a great feature to have. You could serve whole wheat variety muffins, breads etc. & different type of herbal tea’s and whatever. Space allowing, all natural foods/soups in winter months.
Similar to the herbal place further down past Wentworth-Douglas hospital.
Hi Donna,
Thanks for your suggestion! So far food has been a popular option — I’m glad you took the time to respond!

What products do you carry that help heal cold sores?
Hi Trish,
I apologize for being so late in my response. The weather has had me all disorganized! We carry products that can be used topically as well as ones that can be taken internally for cold sores. L-Lysine is a very commonly suggested ingredient for cold sores and can be used internally or topically. Quantum’s Lysine Plus products (again, both internal and topical) are ones we hear excellent feedback about. Feel free to call the store (603-740-8400) for more info!

I was wondering if you had any vitamin K cream products, like ones for the treatment of spider veins?
Hi Jillian,
Yes, the Herbal Path carries several products specifically indicated for vein health (including spider veins). Jason makes a Vitamin K Cream that combines vitamin K with an herbal blend. Derma-e and Planetary Herbals also have topical creams for vein health that include herbs (no vitamin K). Some of the common herbal ingredients are horse chesnut, witch hazel, and butcher’s broom. Please feel free to call any time (603-740-8400) for more info or to have something set aside for you. Thanks!

I am trying to get information on a product called Iodine-Plus 2, do you carry it and if so what feed back have you had?
Thanks
Hi Kim
Iodine-Plus 2 is a brand name product that contains Iodine (12.5 mg), Selenium (15 mcg), and Vitamin B2 (15 mg). We do not carry it in the Herbal Path, although I’m pretty sure someone has asked about it before in the blog. It appears to be available mainly online. I have not heard much about the product, but based on the ingredients, my first thought is “that’s a lot of iodine!” (over 8000% of the RDA). The thing to make sure is whether or not you have an iodine deficiency. Many people are being diagnosed with hypothyroidism (or self-diagnosing based on their symptoms), but it is not always caused by a lack of dietary iodine. I would definitely want to have my thyroid checked (T3 and T4 levels) and consult with a doctor before taking such a high dose of iodine.
Marci
Do you carry B6 in topical form? Thank you
Hi Bonnie,
B6 is sometimes included as an ingredient in topical creams and lotions used for treating certain kinds of dermatitis. The Herbal Path does not carry topical B6 regularly, although if there was a specific product you are looking for, we could certainly check if it could be ordered for you. Because the B vitamins are water-soluble, they are generally well-absorbed and well-tolerated when taken internally. Hope this helps,
Marci

Hi Karen,
Yes, we carry grapefruit seed extract in both a liquid and capsule form. The brand we carry is Nutribiotic. Hello,
Does Rebecca have experience working with women experiencing infertility? If so I would be interested in having her contact me for a consultation.
Thank you.
Hi Lindsay,
I’m fairly certain Rebecca does have experience in this area — I have forwarded your comment on to her so that she can reply. I would definitely suggest calling the Dover store (603-740-8400) and asking to speak with her. That’s probably the fastest way to be able to schedule a consultation. Thank you!

Hi Alana,
Thanks for your comment. Any workshops that we’re hosting will be posted on the Dover calendar (or Portsmouth calendar). We also try to post information on the main page of the blog. Right now we don’t have any planned for February, but once we know what’s coming, we’ll let you know as soon as possible!

In the past you have recommended 2 products, which were very effective, in boosting the immune system and fighting recurrent sinus infections. I would like to know the names of the products, please. (It was capsules with mushroon based active ingredients, if I remember correctly.)
Hi Ronel,
There are many single mushrooms and mushroom combinations that can be effective in improving immunity. I’m not sure exactly which ones you are thinking of — in the past, New Chapter produced two popular products called Host Defense and Breathe, which were specifically targeted at deep immune boosting and respiratory health. New Chapter is currently reformulating all of their mushroom products, and the person who originally created their formulas has started his own company (Paul Stamet’s Host Defense). The Herbal Path does carry Paul Stamet’s products and will also carry the New Chapter products once they are released (March, most likely). You might look especially at his “MyCommunity” and “CordyChi” products for immunity and sinus support.

I did a quick internet check for the product, and it is available for purchase online if you cannot find it at a retail store near you. From the site I was looking at, it’s a pretty pricey product ($48.50 for 1.7 oz) — I think it’s very possible you could find another product that combined essential oils with moisturizing ingredients that might work similarly well at a lower price that didn’t have the Dr. Weil brand name associated with it. However, it does have some unique ingredients that are not common to other night creams that I’ve seen at the Herbal Path, and those may be why it has the higher price.
Hope this helps!
Marci
Do you sell Dr Andrew Weil for Origins Night Health Bedtime Face Cream?
Do you carry Emulsifying wax at either of your stores? I usually order it online but I ran out and need it by Saturday. It’s a long drive to your store so I wanted to check before hand.
Hi Kerri-Anne,
I’m sorry to say that neither Herbal Path location carries emulsifying wax. I did a quick internet search and couldn’t come up with any stores in the area that stock it, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be found. You might try Portsmouth Health Food, or getting in touch with a natural practitioner in your area (someone who makes/sells creams and lotion-type products) — they might be willing to sell you some that could get you through until you can get an online order delivered. Hope this helps (at least to save you a trip, although we’d be happy to see you!). Happy New Year!

I am looking for Serrapeptase. I have what I believe is a Morton’s Neuroma and I’ve read that this (it comes from silk worms) works really well. Thanks.
Hi Paula,
We do carry Serrapeptase at the Herbal Path. We usually have it on the shelves at the Dover store — if the Portsmouth store doesn’t have it in stock we could always transfer some there if it was easier for you to go to that location. If you would like additional information from a pharmacist or information about pricing (or would like us to set some aside for you), feel free to call any time at 603-740-8400. Thank you!

Hi Margaret,
Yes, we do carry the Rescue Cream by Bach. You’re always welcome to call ahead (603-740-8400) to make sure we have a product on the shelf; we’d be happy to hold one (or more) aside for you. Thanks!

Do you have an essential oil or an oil that smells like pine? If so what are your hours today?
Hi April,
We do carry Pine essential oil (pinus sylvestris) by Wyndmere. The cost is $5.49 for 10 ml. We also carry a blend called “Breathe Easier” that includes Pine essential oil along with other oils.
On Tuesday, Dec. 1 we will be open late (till 9 pm) with our special December kickoff sale. Generally we are open 9 am – 7 pm on weeknights, 9 am – 6 pm on Saturdays, and 10 am – 5 pm on Sundays. (We will be doing another late night sale on Monday, Dec. 21st, if the late night times work better for you!).
Thanks,
Marci

Hi there!
My name is Laura Chapman. It was just brought to my attention that you guys have a store in Dover. I had only known about the one in Portsmouth. It has also been brought to be attention that you guys are having a Pet Fair type of event next weekend. I am a local Dog Behavior Specialist, based in New Durham NH. I do planning on attending your event but also wanted to let you know that if there is anything else I can do to help (such as a Q&A session), please let me know.

Hi Laura!
Thanks for commenting — we’d love to have you at the Pet Extravaganza on Saturday! The person organizing the event is Pat Wilson; she will be at the Herbal Path Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of this week from 11-7. You can call the store any time (603-740-8400) to speak with her and get more information. Right now we have several people and organizations setting up tables and providing information and/or products, including the Cocheco Valley Humane Society, Joyce Belcher (Herbs for Life pet supplements), and more. It sounds like your service would be a great fit.

how can I subscribe to the blog feed (RSS)?
Hi Janet,
Sometimes things show up differently in different browsers, but I’m looking at the blog in Firefox and the RSS button shows up as a floating green square in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen (it only shows up when I’m on the home page of the blog). If you click it, it should walk you through the process of subscribing to the RSS feed. If you have any trouble, let me know!

Do you have a mineral oil for occasional contipation; I have 10 yr. 62 lb. child, just got over H1N1 flu and is now not having bowel movement; but has been eating very well. I don’t want anything that will stimulate the bowel due to side effects-bloating,cramps, gas. (she did have a partial blockage in her intestine 2 years ago – after a virus that had her sick for about 7 days.
Hi Debbie,
After a quick check on the internet, it looks like mineral oil is generally considered an acceptable treatment for constipation; however, it is not something we recommend at the Herbal Path. There are several alternatives you might consider. One is Greg’s “Gut Wrench” Tea — this is an herbal tea with a nice flavor that is wonderful for all types of digestive discomfort, including constipation. Slippery elm powder on its own can also be used, and is safe even for very young children. We also carry several magnesium products (powders that can be mixed with water) that may be effective. If you are specifically looking for an oil, any oil in large doses will tend to have a laxative effect, and you might consider using something like the Udo’s 3-6-9 blend, or a hemp oil (both of which have a more kid-friendly flavor than fish oil).

Do you have any herbal equivelant for the very expensive drug viagra?
Hi Mark,
There are multiple herbal options you might consider. Maca, for instance, has many uses, and one of them is as a stamina and endurance builder for men. Several companies make combination herbal products that we’ve had some positive feedback on from customers (as you might imagine, not everyone is eager to share their feedback about these products, so it makes any feedback we do receive more valuable). Some of the herbs you might find in those products are yohimbe and horny goat weed. You’re welcome to call (603-740-8400) or visit the store to get more information!

What would you recommend for premenopausal symptoms such as weight gain, hot flashes and mood swings?
Hi Gail,
My number one suggestion for any situation where hormones are fluctuating (including perimenopause) is adaptogenic herbs. Adaptogens are herbs that can bring the body back into balance; examples include ashwagandha, rhodiola, holy basil, and eleuthero.
Any time your body is undergoing a change, it’s important to support it with a good foundation. Healthy eating, a multivitamin, exercise, and watching your stress are all great things to look at.
There are also many products specifically formulated for perimenopausal symptoms, including the AM/PM Perimenopause Formula, New Chapter’s Estrotone, and Femenessence Peri Menopause (a maca product). Feel free to stop by the store or call anytime (603-740-8400). You might ask to speak with Rebecca — she is an herbalist with a lot of knowledge about women’s health.
Thank you!

I have Osteoarthritis, I read that , red seaweed extract ,2,400mg. would help the pain.????
Dot
Hi Dot,
Thanks for writing — I had not heard of red seaweed extract being used for osteoarthritis, but an internet search showed that there have been some studies done on it. The studies appear fairly small (fewer than 100 people), and one of them also included a glucosamine sulfate supplement along with the red seaweed. However, the results do look promising. NOW Foods makes a product called Red Mineral Algae (Aquamin) that looks like what you’re looking for. (180 capsules for $17.99) We could definitely order that for you. We also carry many other pain-relieving and joint support products that we’d be happy to explain to you!
Thanks,
Marci

Marci,
Thanks for the info on immunplex and the similar products you carry. I’ll be in soon to buy some.
Am wondering if you carry Immunoplex? I’ve heard it can really build up a person’s immunity and help when you feel like you might be getting the flu or a cold? I’m opting out of any flu shots this year and would like to build up immunity or fight off colds/flus easier.
Thanks
Hi,
Immunoplex is a proprietary blend made by Biomed International (there is also a product called “Immuno-Plex” by Healing Leaves, which is a different blend). It is a blend of Vitamins A, C, & B6, Zinc, Echinacea, Bioflavanoids, Licorice, Bromelain, Ginger, Oregon Grape Root, and Goldenseal.
The Herbal Path does not care this specific product, but we do carry many immune boosting and wellness products. In particular, you might consider the Wellness blend, which contains vitamins, minerals, and herbs similar to Immunoplex. Feel free to call the store (603-740-8400) anytime or stop by to see our selection.
Thanks!

Sombra Pain Gel. Do you carry it and have you any comments from users?
Hi Jim,
Yes, we do carry the Sombra Pain Gel. I haven’t heard a lot of feedback about it, but it is definitely a consistent seller for us, and I believe we originally brought it in because of a customer request. (I certainly don’t want to encourage you to buy it online instead of from us, but there are multiple reviews of the product at amazon.com!)
Hope this helps!

Hi just wondering if you have any products for anxiety? Thanks. If you could, please e-mail me your respoonse.
Dan
Hi Dan,
The quick answer is yes, we do carry many products that people use for anxiety and stress. I will email you some additional information. Some of the most important considerations when looking for a natural supplement to ease anxiety are:
1. Can you identify the general (or specific) cause of the anxiety?
2. Are you taking anything for anxiety already, particularly prescription drugs?
3. What are you looking to do in terms of natural products? (An ongoing supplement, something you only take as-needed, something to take at night, something for before public speaking, etc.)
Thanks,
Marci

My older brother (he is 61) is suffering from Erythema Multi Forme otherwise known as Stevens-Johnson syndrome. He is very sick and has tried what his doctor has recommended with anitbiotics and he seems to get better yet it is now back again. He is misserable, he has been wanting to come home for a visit but is unable to travel due to this. Is there any herbal/homopathic way to help ease symptoms and distress? He has told us he got this in Vietnam while stationed over there and it seems to spring up every now and again. I have heard of a super vitamin, but what is that? Can this be prevented from out break again?
thank you for anything you can provide.
Hi Lori,
Thank you for writing. I have forwarded your question to Greg, who is a certified pharmacist and herbalist at the Herbal Path. I have also passed on your email address so that he can contact you directly. You might also consider calling the store (603-740-8400) and asking to speak with him. He is very knowledgeable about natural medicines, and I hope he will be able to give you some suggestions!

thank you.
Hi Ellen,
Thank you for your patience! Our intern, Allison, has just completed a synopsis of the forum, which can be found here on the blog. I hope the information is helpful to you — if you have further questions, you are always welcome to call the Herbal Path (603-740-8400). We will also be holding a second forum on Wednesday, October 14th, at 6:30 pm.
Thank You!

Hi,
I suspect I may suffer from a hyperactive thyroid. I am constantly hot, have symptoms of insomnia, fatigued, irritable, irregular bowel movements, anxiety, etc. I have probably been dealing with this for over 15 years – especially the insomnia. When I go to a doctor he either puts me on a antianxiety medication or gives me something to sleep. I have not been on anxiety meds for 2 years. I currently take tyenol PM or similar every night to try and get some sleep. Many times, I lay there very hot, frustrated, tense and fatigued the next day. I would like to try and treat the “heat” problem and the sleeping issue naturally and see if it clears up the rest. Do you have any “hyperthyroidsim” natural remedies or other products you might recomend? Thank you!!!
Hi Ryan,
Thanks for your question — many people come into the Herbal Path with questions about thyroid issues. There are tests your doctor can do to determine thyroid function. If you are not sure how well your thyroid is working, my top recommendation would be to schedule a consultation with Greg. Greg is a certified pharmacist as well as herbalist and would be able to look at what medications you’ve taken before, along with the symptoms you are currently experiencing, and give you suggestions. In most cases, he might begin by looking at the general health foundation, along with things that could help with specific issues.
Marci

Hi, I sent the website for the NewChapter products that I take to a friend who is a chemist and what follows are her comments on the product. Can you address the comment that the NewChapter products are “average” ? Thanks, K
Hello!
Thank you for your question — we are always happy to discuss questions or concerns about products. Based on the information from your friend, it looks like there are several considerations to address.
-the Women’s multivitamin: I’m not sure which variety you are currently taking (the one daily, the Every Woman, or the Every Woman II), but all of them are in a tablet form. Compared to getting your nutrients from whole *food* sources (i.e. eating a healthy, balanced, and inclusive diet), *any* vitamin supplement is certainly “average.” We always try to explain to our customers that food is the best source of nutrition. However, many people also choose to supplement with a multivitamin.
-I’m concerned that your friend talks about ingredients that “they won’t tell me.” Legally, companies are required to list *all* ingredients on the package label. What you see is what you get. I consider New Chapter’s vitamins to be a “clean” product — when you read the ingredients, you don’t find chemicals, as you do with some other brands.
-I am not a chemist, or a pharmacist. From the feedback I have received from customers, New Chapter’s vitamins pass the “do I feel a difference” test for many people.
-Bone Strength Take Care (I’m guessing this is the bone product you are taking; New Chapter also makes a Cal Mag product.) My first concern is that your friend mentions “Pb,” which is the element shorthand for lead. There is no lead in any of New Chapter’s bone products (and shouldn’t be in *any* bone product!).
-With regards to absorption (and utilization) of calcium. There is quite a bit of research currently being done on the importance of Vitamin K in addition to Vitamin D for bone health. (Vitamin K *is* included in the Bone Strength product; there is an article currently available on pubmed.gov on the topic of Vitamin K and bone health.)
I do believe there are *many* quality supplements available today, from a variety of companies, and I commend you for doing your research and asking questions. If you would like more detailed information about the chemical structure of New Chapter’s products versus other supplements, I encourage you to call us (603-740-8400) and speak with one of our certified pharmacists. While research is definitely lagging behind the explosion of “natural” supplements, there *is* independent research being done, especially on vitamin and mineral products. We strive to bring you the best information available, and we are all learning along the way.
Marci
Hi, I sent the website for the NewChapter products that I take to a friend who is a chemist and what follows are her comments on the product. Can you address the comment that the NewChapter products are “average” ? Thanks, K
“- the woman’s one….nice thought that would appeal to organic minded folks – but chemically, it’s irrelevant. Wherever the structure comes from – your bodies use of it has to do with it’s access to it and doesn’t actually matter how it got made.
The probably is – the key is in the ingredients they won’t tell me – but as it’s still extracts in a hard pill, I’d guess it’s barely if better than any other pill form vitamin. It’s gel caps that are significantly better.
The bone one – the key is to have some vitamin D and have the Ca chelate with most soluble anions – like the citrate rather than the carbonate. The description does not say what in the algea chelates the Pb. Having other minerals delivered with the calcium – not relevant for absorption of Ca. It being plant matter rather than oystershells or limestone is not as relevant as you’d think. There are LOADS of vitamins in plants that our bodies cannot get and use well. For example, your body can get maximum use of the Fe delivered in red meat – already in animal muscle – your body can’t easily get the Fe in Spinach.
So these 2…..well basically, they are average”

do you carry any natural remedies for hemorrhoids? i am experiencing external hemorrhoids and was recently prescribed suppositories. they have done nothing. since then (yesterday…i know it hasn’t been long enough to see results), i’ve read numerous things about internal suppositories doing NOTHING for external hemorrhoids. any advice/suggestions for products to try would be appreciated.
Hi Marie,
I asked Greg about your question (Greg is a certified pharmacist and herbalist) and he had some great suggestions. One is to do a sitz bath using Calendula, Chamomile, and Witch Hazel. Another suggestion is to use one of the topical creams that we offer here, such as Boiron’s Avenoc ointment. Internally, you could try taking Collinsonia (Stone Root), which is available in capsules or as a liquid extract.
Thanks so much for your question, and feel free to come by any time for more information!

Hello,
We do not offer a printable list of products available at the Herbal Path. We have two locations (Dover and Portsmouth) which do carry slightly different product lines. Also, we have a fluctuating stock of seasonal products. If you have questions about the availability of a specific product, please feel free to call the store (603-740-8400) and we’d be happy to help you.

Do you have or know a source that carries “food grade” hydrogen peroxide”?
Hi Steven,
Yes, we carry food grade hydrogen peroxide at the Dover Herbal Path. A 4 oz bottle costs $9.59, and a 16 oz bottle costs $16.99. The directions for internal use are on the bottle. This is a product we try to keep on the shelf all the time, but you are always welcome to give us a call (603-740-8400) if you’d like us to set one aside for you.
Thanks for writing!

Re: Resveratrol Ultra online. I would be wary of ordering online. I placed an order for “free” trial(only pay for shipping. I received a call from my bank the next day questioning a credit card payment from Israel. When I called the 800 number…they claim to be located somewhere in Florida.
Gregg,
Is tumeric safe to take for someone who has had some issues with gallstones?
Thanks.
Hi Skip,
Thanks for your feedback about the Resveratrol Ultra online purchasing. I checked with Greg regarding the turmeric, and he said it is safe to take if you have had gallstones. In fact, in the book “Prescription for Nutritional Healing,” it states “if you have gallstones, or are prone to developing them, turmeric can reduce your risk of further problems.” Also, the Planetary Herbals product Stone Free (a product for kidney and gallbladder health) lists turmeric as the first ingredient.
Hope this helps!

Does the Herbal path carry the product Resveratrol Ultra?
Hi Megann!
I did some checking online, and it looks like Resveratrol Ultra is currently only available by phone order direct from the company. Unfortunately, it looks like some people have had a negative experience with the payment program for this product, so I would definitely advise you to do your research before you hand over your credit card number! Here at the Herbal Path we carry three excellent brands of Resveratrol — Lifetime, Source Naturals, and Country Life. The Country Life product (Resveratrol Plus) is particularly nice, since it is a blend of resveratrol and several other potent antioxidants. Stop by the store anytime if you have questions or would like to take a look at the resveratrol products!

Do you carry Twinlab Dr. Greene Children’s chewable Multivitamins? If not, can you order them?
Hi Laurie,
We are always happy to order products for people that we do not carry on our shelves. We have found some wonderful new products this way! The Twinlab Dr. Greene Children’s Chewable Multivitamin is available in two flavors (berry and orange). It comes in a 50-count package and sells for $16.99 SRP. We could definitely order it for you — we place our orders on Sunday and Monday, and items generally come in by the end of the week. Give us a call anytime (603-740-8400) if you would like more info.

Question: Have you any products to combat the swine flu?
Thank you
Shirley
Hi Shirley,
The H1N1 flu virus is something we all should be aware of as we head into the fall season. Just as in the pharmaceutical industry, there is no product guaranteed to prevent or cure influenza, either the H1N1 strain or seasonal influenza. However, there are multiple herbal products that may be beneficial. Elderberry is a top recommendation for viruses, and is available in many different forms. There are also mushrooms that are wonderful for immunity. In addition, taking a good multivitamin and probiotic, and eating plenty of fruits and vegetables, are good steps for general good health.
We would be happy to talk with you about specific products for you if you have questions — feel free to call or stop by either store!

Any products that help with stiffness in joints(knees) and fingers other than gloucosimine and the normal stuff? also any products that promote hair growth?
Thanks
Steve,
There are many products intended for joint pain and stiffness. Glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM, and collagen are one category of products. There are also herbal anti-inflammatories that can bring relief. This category includes things like New Chapter’s Zyflamend, turmeric, ginger, devil’s claw, nettle, and boswellia. In addition, you could try homeopathic remedies such as Arnica or Traumeel.
For hair growth, we have both internal supplements and topical products. Both New Chapter and MegaFood make multivitamins specifically for hair, skin, and nails. There are also supplements such as silica. Topically, a rosemary hair oil could be beneficial.
Hope this helps!
Any products that help with stiffness in joints(knees) and fingers other than gloucosimine and the normal stuff? also any products that promote hair growth?
Thanks
